FRANCES JOANNE BAGGETT JONES passed
away in Jan. of 2020 at Indianapolis, IN.
Born Frances Joanne Baggett to Myrtle & Rembert
Baggett in Savannah, GA, On Nov. 18, 1929, Joanne
grew up in the depression-era south and attended
Ranger High School in the Class of 1947 at Ranger,
TX. Moving to Dallas, TX, she worked her way through
Southern Methodist University by being a copywriter
for an advertising agency. Enco's, "Put a Tiger in
Your Tank" was her idea. She married young Methodist
minister George William Jones, then quit her job and
school when her two sons came into the world. She was
essential in raising the family out of poverty by
careful management of the household, budgeting, and
saving.
After her sons were grown, Joanne returned to SMU
to complete her degree. She eventually built her own
commercial real estate business. She was a die-hard
Texan until she moved to Indianapolis much later in
life to be with her oldest son, Chris, who survives
her.
She is also survived by her son, David, and grand-
children Meri, Graham, Rhiannon, Edit, Dori, & Sean.
