ROBERT LEE "BOB" HUNT passed away on Feb. 8,
2025. He was born in Ranger, TX on Sept. 11 1922, to
Robert E. Lee Hunt & Susan Helene Bobo (RHS-1912)
Hunt. Bob grew up in Ranger, attending Hodges Oak
Park Elementary School & Ranger High School, grad-
uating with the Class of 1940.
After graduating from high school, Bob enrolled at
the University of Oklahoma. In 1942, Bob volunteered
for service in the U.S. Army Air Force, serving at
the Waco Army Air Field, Loflin Air Field Del Rio,
TX, Goodfellow Air Base in San Angelo, TX and Perin
Field in Sherman, TX. He was honorably discharged in
the spring of 1946.
Bob returned to the University of Oklahoma & graduated
with a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology with the
Class of 1949. He moved to Houston in the fall of that
year and was employed by Columbian Carbon Company as a
jr. geologist working in the Texas and Louisiana Gulf
Coast areas.
He then met and married his wife of 50 years, Elisabeth
(Lis) Gallaher. He was transferred with Columbian Carbon
Co to Lafayette, Louisiana to open an exploration office
in 1954. After Columbian Carbon Co. merged with Cities
Service Oil Co. he was retained as senior Exploration
Geologist for Louisiana district. He was transferred
back to Houston in 1966 to serve on the staff of the
Southern Region as Vice President until his retirement
from Cities Service Oil Co. in 1978. He was later employed
by Ranger Oil as the Southern Louisiana geologist and
Exploration Manager.
After retiring in 1982, he & Lis enjoyed cruising to
Alaska & the Caribbean as well as summer trips to Santa
Fe, New Mexico. Bob's love of music was most evident
while playing his big Lowery organ & sharing that love
with his Thursday morning organ group.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Elisabeth Gallaher
Hunt, mother, Susan Bobo Hunt and father, Robert Hunt,
sister, Camilla Hunt McLaughlin (RHS-1936), brother-in-
law, Keith Mclaughlin his beloved aunts, Clover Bobo
Cole, Duke Bobo Weaver, Marion Hunt Wilson, mother-in-
law, Nell Smith Gallaher. He is survived by his two
daughters and their husbands, Dianna Hunt Bowe (Darrell
Bowe), Carol Hunt Duplichan (Jim Zak), niece Suzi Mclaughlin,
Park Weaver and Michael Cole.
NOTE: After the death of his wife, Elisabeth, he later
married Zelma Robinson Huff (RHS-1940) who died in 2014.
